More Past Trips

Below are some pictures of some monster Rainbows Mortensen and Eric caught on spinners one rainy day on the Henry's Fork of the Snake near Ashton, ID.

A nice Middle Provo Brown:

The Green River Sep 12-13, 2013

September 12-13 Erin and Eric were on the famous Green River below the Flaming Gorge Dam.  The fish were snooty, making it a tough day on the river.  Finally at dusk, Eric landed a 13" Rainbow on a hopper dry fly.  We switched to spinner fishing near dark.  It was so dark by the time we were finishing we couldn't see more than 10 feet.  I saw Mortensen's outline on the boat ramp and hear success..."Yeah!  Yeah!" then splashing.  On his last cast of the night he lands a nice 13" Brown.  It was too dark to take pictures of either fish.  Below are some nice actions shots.  The first one I like to call, "Squatch in the River".  Just imagine lots of hair!

After a 12 hour day of fishing and a 30 minute drive to Vernal, UT, we bunked in the quaint Sage Motel.   Since we were starving and checked in we cursed the metropolis of Vernal for supper.  That's when I made one of the worst mistakes of my adult life:  I ate "food" from Burger King!  Too tired to move on to Arby's after Mortensen ordered his Flooper, I caved in and ordered a pulled pork sandwich.  I couldn't even identify the nasty thing once we got it back to the hotel.  Turns out it was pureed mystery meat with foul BBQ sauce on it.  As long as I didn't look at it while eating, I could convince myself it was food.  Burger King should be fined by the Health Dept. just for existing!

Friday the 13th was a lucky day of fishing, for me.  We started at Little Hole fishing the boat ramp.  Mortensen hooked at massive 6" Brown.  I caught two 9" Rainbows and then we moved upstream.  We were fishing hoppers as dry flies with various nymphs or emergers trailing.  Mortensen was half way to the dam, so I decided to fish about 4-6 feet from the shore along the trail.  I figured everyone passed good looking water on the way to the deep holes downstream.  Poetic justice prevailed.  Just as Mortensen returned from wherever he had hiked to and said, "Caught any minnows yet?" a fish inhaled my hopper.  As I hooked him and he shot off upstream making my drag sing, I responded, "No!"  The fish leaped out of the water and ran downstream.  I fought him for a while with my forearm burning, then swung my 17.5" Rainbow over to Mortensen to net for me.  The only way it could have been more perfect is if I had said, "Prepare to be amazed!" just before he hit!

Overall, it was tough fishing the rest of the day.  It was fun and scenic, but next time, we'll find a boat!

And for all you out there who are convinced our hard earned tax dollars are not being well spent, well....
...your're right!
